Thousands of kids experienced the biggest night of their summer – and the biggest production Verizon Wireless Amphitheater has seen in some time – when Disney pop-rock trio the Jonas Brothers headlined a concert at the outdoor venue Tuesday night.

The Jonas’ 15-year-old “Camp Rock” co-star Demi Lovato warmed up the throng of youngsters and their parents, igniting plenty of shrieking from the crowd with a rock-infused set. The screams continued as the crowd rose for every Jonas-worshiping text message and the unveiling of Avril Lavigne’s pink plaid skull and crossbones backdrop.

The 23-year-old Lavigne – a veteran compared to her tour mates, with six years and three Top 5 albums to her credit – kicked off her set with “Girlfriend.” Everything from her Telecasters to her mic stand was bedazzled with pink glitter. She stuck to the cheerleader punk of her last album, “The Best Damn Thing,” and her 2002 debut “Let Go,” omitting more adult material like her 2007 single “Hot.”

I was the envy of all tweenage girls Tuesday when I had the chance to meet and spend the day with the Jonas Brothers, the Disney-cultivated “it” pop group of the moment.

The boys, Nick, Joe and Kevin – ages 15, 18 and 20, respectively – go nonstop from city to city, promoting their tour, upcoming album, charity and latest acting gigs.

But in their downtime, they manage to make room to be normal kids.

8 a.m.: The brothers arrive in Charlotte after playing Cincinnati the night before.

Noon: News conference with select group of media at the Westin Charlotte. Among the highlights: Joe jokes that the biggest thing he looks forward to when visiting family in North Carolina (his father’s side of the family is from Gaston County) is Cracker Barrel. His brothers chime in, “We love having family around. Family is No.1 for us.”

12:30 p.m.: Autograph signings for the media, including an electric guitar that Ace & TJ from Kiss 95.1 will auction for their charity, Grin Kids.
