FROM HER gossipy late-night perch on E! Entertainment Television, Chelsea Handler routinely mouths off about Tom Cruise, Angelina Jolie and almost everyone else in and around the gates of the Hollywood-industrial complex. And typically, the host of “Chelsea Lately” does so without incurring threats of bodily harm.

Then, she took on the JonasBrothers, the squeaky-clean, heartthrob boy band from New Jersey. In a recent sketch, Handler mocked the band’s masculinity, their mismatched hair and their “purity rings” (symbolizing the pop stars’ pledge not to have premarital sex). Later in the bit, Handler sexually manhandled one of the faux brothers — shoving her chest in his face and offering him carnal delights.

Legions of outraged Jonas Brothers devotees unleased their wrath. “Chelsea Handler can go die in a whole! [sic],” read one missive directed at her. Some merely called her names, others were more specific — suggesting Handler die sooner rather than later. The group’s publicist weighed in, albeit more respectfully, threatening to withdraw the cable network’s access to the brothers, Miley Cyrus and other Disney Channel megastars, said Handler…

Disney Channel UK star Brad Kavanagh recently visited Birmingham’s Bullring to promote the new Disney Cannel Exclusive film Camp Rock and to rock out with fans in the Camp Rock ‘Rockeoke Recording Studio.
16-year-old Brad covers the track ‘Here I Am’ on the fim’s soundtrack and during his visit to the Bullring he shared his love of all things Disney and gave fans a sneak preview of clips from the new film.

They are this generation’s answer to the Jackson 5, New Kids on the Block, Hanson and ‘N Sync.

The Jonas Brothers — siblings Kevin, 20, Joe, 18, and Nick, 15 — are the latest heartthrobs to capture the hearts of teens, tweens and in-betweens.

And, as with their predecessors, the appeal is multidimensional.

“They appeal to me because they are amazing performers,” says Hannah Morgan, 13, of Scottdale, who is a budding guitarist. “They have an awesome fashion sense! I love their clothes! They look good!”

The Jonas Brothers perform Tuesday at the Post-Gazette Amphitheater in Burgettstown.

Teen sensations Selena Gomez and Nick Jonas (of the Jonas Brothers band) are exchanging steamy text messages now that they’ve been dating for a couple of months. Nick previously dated Disney teen queen Miley Cyrus, 16.

“I love your mouth and I love your smile. It totally melts me,” Nick, 15, reportedly wrote in a recent text to Selena, 16. Jonas and Gomez previously co-starred in the Disney Channel TV movie, Camp Rock, and Selena currently appears in the Jonas Brothers’ new video for their song, Burning Up.

While the Disney sweethearts haven’t confirmed their romance, numerous sources say the duo are indeed dating, and they can’t stop sending lovey-dovey e-mails and text messages to each another, even when they’re in the same room.

The tour comes on the heels of the debut of the first Jonas Brothers movie, “Camp Rock,” which aired June 20 and 21 on the Disney Channel, while the same channel continues to air the reality show mini-episodes, “Living the Dream,” which follows three brothers – Nick, 15, Kevin, 20, and Joe, 18, on tour.

Next came the release of the group’s new CD, “A Little Bit Longer,” Aug. 12. Plans also call for filming to begin this fall on a new Disney Channel series, “J.O.N.A.S,” which will feature the three brothers playing spies in an action comedy. Down the road, a book and a 3-D concert movie are in the group’s plans.

In an early June teleconference interview with reporters (conducted while the group was on tour in Europe with Lavigne), Kevin Jonas said the group relishes its mushrooming success and exposure, despite its challenges.

“It’s really crazy,” he said. “But it’s a lot of fun. We’re enjoying every minute of what we do. The schedule we keep is demanding, but it’s definitely an amazing experience. We really enjoy going on the road as much as we are able to. And being able to get out and about around Europe and see all of those amazing things as well is just incredible. It’s pretty fantastic.”

The Jonases have teamed up with Chevy for a Green Team Jonas promotion with a lucrative prize: meeting Disney heartthrobs Nick, Joe and Kevin. The “Chevy Rocks the Road with the Jonas Brothers” poster contest’s theme was about having fun and thinking green, and so-called Chevy Spotters were to be in the parking lots of the First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre looking for possible winners.

But many of the posters covered with glitter glue, puffy paint and the blood, sweat and tears of girls were thrown in the trash because there were too many to be judged outside and the posters weren’t allowed in the venue. The ticket takers said the posters were banned because they could obstruct the views of Jonas fans. One worker said the posters would be given to the Jonases later.

But that did little to ease the disappointment of young fans, who were seen dejectedly throwing their posters into large garbage bins before the show.

Lauren Adrian, 13, made a poster for the contest.

“We got there at 4:30, because that’s what the rules said to do. Then we waited in this really long line but there was just way too many people so they said the poster contest was closed,” she said. “I saw some kids crying, but it was still fun to make the poster anyway.”

Adrian said she was told the posters would be put in a box to give to the Jonas Brothers.

The Jonas Brothers — the greatest exports of Wyckoff, N.J., since Tara Reid –steamrolled Sunday night into Tinley Park, filling every square inch of the Midwest Bank Amphitheatre with the relentless shrieks and screams of feverish young ladies.

Oh, the shrieks. They began long before any of the Jonas Brothers — Nick, Kevin and Joe — stepped onstage. Projected onto jumbo screens on either side of the stage between opening act Demi Lovato and the Jobros were text messages from concertgoers.

“Nick J is off the chain,” read one. “Bark if you love Jobros,” read another. And still another beckoned the crowd, which consisted mainly of girls ranging in age from approximately 12 to 17 years old, “Scream if this is the best night of your life.” And scream they did.

Just as women of certain generations proudly boast they saw New Kids on the Block 20 years ago or ‘N Sync 10 years ago, this sold-out obsess fest will undoubtedly become an indelible memory for the droves of tweens and teens in attendance.
