EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: Noah Cyrus, Frankie Jonas talk Twitter, music and sibling advice

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

This is not really Nick related so much, but Frankie does mention JB/Nick. So I thought I’d post it anyways in support of the movie Ponyo which will release on August 14th.

Are you ready for the new generation of Disney stars?

Well, get ready.

Noah Cyrus, Miley Cyrus’ little sister, and Frankie Jonas, little brother of Joe, Nick and Kevin Jonas, are the young voice stars in the new Disney anime film, “Ponyo.” The film, which opens Aug. 14, also features the voices of Cate Blanchett, Matt Damon, Tina Fey, Cloris Leachman, Liam Neeson, Lily Tomlin and Betty White.

And Noah and Frankie even did a duet together in the magical film created by anime legend Hayao Miyasaki. But it wasn’t Frankie’s first time in the music studio.

He already has a band and “we’re doing some demos,” he told reporters at the “Ponyo” press conference at the Four Seasons yesterday.

Of course they are.

Asked if “Ponyo” has a lot of common with Disney’s “The Little Mermaid,” the famous fledglings explained why they thought it does.

“It’s based on a fish who wants to become human,” Frankie explains. “And it’s about saving the Earth,” added Noah.

What’s the best advice their celebrity brothers and sisters have given them about handling premieres and red carpets and press junkets?

“Good luck and stay positive,” said Frankie. “My sister told me to always have fun when you do it,” adds Noah.

Keep reading to watch the next video in which Noah talks about wanting to become a singer like Miley and about her Twittering habits.

Frankie talks about his new band, FranJam, and his ambition to become secretary of Defense when his brother becomes president of the United States.

Scary, but it could happen ….

The Jonas Brothers could end up ruling the world

“Jonas Brothers delight St. Louis fans”

Say what you will about Jonas Brothers’ popularity these days — the underwhelming performance of “Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience” and lower-than-expected sales of their new CD “Lines, Vines and Trying Times” aren’t unnoticed.

But when it comes to the live show, there’s no question Nick, Joe and Kevin Jonas still got it going on.

More than 17,000 fans, mostly screaming girls and in many cases their parents, came out to see the siblings in concert Tuesday night at Scottrade Center, where Miley Cyrus’ former opening act gave its biggest show yet.

Using a massive in-the-round presentation with three separate platforms extending the length of the arena floor and lined by fans, the guys were introduced to Queen’s “We Will Rock You.”

The dark-haired boys, wearing black button-down shirts and black skinny jeans, didn’t necessarily rock as much as they rolled through a 90-minute set, a lean machine of a show that moved quickly and was as visually arresting as necessary.

That can be a particular challenge in the round, where a production would seem less flexible. But everything, including lifts, lasers, an on-stage rain shower and a trampoline, kept things jumping.

Was it just me or did Kevin Jonas nearly miss the lift that carried the group up into the air at the beginning of “Gotta Find You,” the night’s best ballad along with “Turn Right”?

It wasn’t just about those frills, which also included spraying the crowd with a water hose at one point.

They worked well simply huddled together against a piano and running all over the stage, large enough that one member could work one end of the arena while another brother worked the other.

The concert stayed lit and the crowd frenzied with songs such as “Paranoid,” “That’s Just the Way We Roll” and “Play My Music.”

Nick Jonas, the brother living with diabetes, retreated to a center-stage piano to go it alone for “A Little Bit Longer,” ending the song with his words on how he was not going to let his diagnosis slow him down. His testimony went on a little long, but it was at least passion-felt.

After asking parents to stand up to show their children they still have it, the band performed Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline,” a cute but needless detour that led to “Live to Party,” “BB Good,” “S.O.S.” and “Burnin’ Up.”

Support act Jordin Sparks, a past “American Idol” winner, came out near the end of the set to perform her “Battlefield,” with backing from Jonas Brothers.
During her own set, Sparks failed to ignite with painful fluff like “S.O.S. (Let the Music Play),” though “No Air” left an impression. There was no discernible sign left of Chris Brown’s vocals on their hit duet.

Honor Society came as a junior Jonas Brothers group, and that’s meant in a good way (and in spite of the fact the guys from Honor Society are older). Jonas Brothers discovered Honor Society, and they could easily go down a similar path with songs such as “Where Are You Now,” “Full Moon Crazy” and “Two Rebels.”

The Wonder Girls, introduced as “Asian superstars,” proved not everything needs to be imported.

Joy in Jonas

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

My heart melted a little when I read this. This was too cute/touching not to post and little kids like her who fight hard for a good cause like diabetes makes me smile.

July 29, 2009
By DENISE M. BARAN-UNLAND For The Sun-Times News Group

For 7-year-old Hannah Kopek, meeting fellow diabetic Nick Jonas was almost as thrilling as raising $1,500 for diabetes research.

Posters of Nick hang all over the of Plainfield girl’s room, broadcasting to the world he is her favorite Jonas Brother. “Because we’re fighting together for a cure for diabetes,” Hannah said. “And because he’s the cutest.”

On July 10, Hannah met the Jonas Brothers backstage at the Allstate Arena in Chicago after winning a drawing for two tickets and passes. The drawing was an incentive for Hannah and walkers like her to form a walk team for the American Diabetes Association’s “Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes” and raise $500 by June 30.

“We were sitting at the airport on our way for vacation in Florida when we learned we won,” said Hannah’s mother, Kristine Kopek. “I never thought she’d win. There were five other walks and so many people competing for the same opportunity. It was kind of a long shot, so we were shocked. She was so excited, I can’t even describe it.”

Although still basking in the thrill of talking to Nick Jonas, Hannah’s focus now is persuading as many people as possible to donate to her team.

Her message is a simple one. “Please support my cause,” Hannah said.

To donate to Hannah’s team — Lil’ Fighters for Life — visit www.diabetes.org/stepout. That team will walk Oct. 3 at Bengtson’s Pumpkin Farm in Homer Glen.

Hannah’s story
Hannah’s problems began last fall when she went through a “picky eater” stage and complained about stomach upset. Kristine sensed a greater problem the day Hannah drank several cartons of milk and asked for more.
“She said she was still thirsty,” Kristine said. “Her blood sugar was so high she was admitted to the ICU.”

The first two months after Hannah’s diagnosis with Type I diabetes was a roller coaster of insulin injections to reduce her blood sugar to normal levels, followed by hypoglycemia and tiny amounts of candy to raise the abnormally low blood sugar levels. An insulin pump eliminated many of these problems

“I’m feeling pretty healthy, but sometimes I don’t feel that well,” Hannah said. “Then my mom checks my blood sugar, gives me Sweet Tarts and checks again. That usually makes me feel better.”

Kristine, too, is encouraged by Hannah’s progress. “She’s like a normal kid who’s able to have a normal lifestyle,” she said. “Her weight went from 37 to 44 pounds.”

Raising money, awareness

To help understand Hannah’s disease, Kristine joined The American Diabetes Association. When she learned about its walk through its monthly magazine, Kris knew she wanted to help.

“For the last three or four years, I took part in Relay for Life with either the walk or the fundraising,” Kristine said. “I had a friend and an aunt that died from cancer, so I felt this was something I wanted to be a part of. We formed Lil’ Fighters for Life with another kid in first grade at another school in the same district. My daughter’s best friend is walking, too.”

After Hannah learned about the Jonas Brothers incentive, she set her sights on the minimum fundraising requirement and forged ahead with her goal. With Kristine, Hannah canvassed her neighborhood and solicited family and friends.

When she attained the coveted $500, Hannah strived for $1,200. When she reached that amount, Hannah again raised her goal.

Kristine said they completed one fundraiser for the walk and are planning a second one.

But, most of all, Kristine is proud of her daughter’s determination and accomplishments.

“She understands a lot for a 7-year-old,” Kristine said.
