Six-year-old kidney disease patient and Melville resident Matthew Levine presented the Jonas Brothers with NephCure wristbands at the group’s July 19 Road Dogs softball game at Hofstra University. Matthew suffers from the kidney disease Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) and promotes awareness of the disease for The NephCure Foundation, www.nephcure.org.
The NephCure Foundation raises money for research into kidney diseases FSGS and Nephrotic Syndrome, seeking treatment and a cure for these growing afflictions that attack children and can lead to kidney failure and dialysis within five years. The NephCure Foundation uses publicity and public service announcements to find patient families whose identities are not available because of HIPAA (medical privacy) regulations.
