MINNEAPOLIS, MN (February 6, 2013) – International charity and educational partner Free The Children is pleased to announce its youth-led social change event, We Day, and year-round educational program, We Act, are expanding to Minnesota for the first time on October 8, 2013 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. Announced today, Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum artists the Jonas Brothers, Former President of the Soviet Union Mikhail Gorbachev and award-winning actress and activist Mia Farrow will lead the electrified crowd of 15,000 students at this stadium-sized educational event amongst other world-renowned speakers and performers soon to be announced.
Students cannot buy a ticket to We Day; they have to earn it through service, by making a commitment to take action on one local and one global initiative as part of the year-long We Act program. By registering for We Act, students and educators receive free educational resources, student-led campaign ideas and materials to support them on their mission to make a difference. Together We Day and We Act provide a blueprint to raise a generation of active global citizens.
“We’ve been involved since our first We Day performance in 2009 in Toronto, and the memory of the energy the 18,000 youth who came to that stadium is still with us today,” said Joe Jonas of the Jonas Brothers. “What we remember most is that the kids were just as excited to see the bands as they were to see world leaders and activists—that’s not something you see every day.”
Students and teachers can learn more about We Day and We Act and how they can get involved by visiting www.weday.com/minnesota.
