ARTICLE/VIDEO: Kingdom Trailer: Matt Lauria, Nick Jonas Strip Down, Get Ripped In DirecTV’s Testosterone-Fueled DramaThursday, July 31st, 2014
DirecTV is opening the gates of its buzzy new Kingdom to reveal a jacked Matt Lauria and Nick Jonas in near-constant states of undress.
The series, billed as a gritty family drama set against the backdrop of the renegade subculture of Mixed Martial Arts, stars Prison Break alum Frank Grillo as Alvey Kulina, an MMA legend and owner of a Venice, CA-based gym. Jonas plays Nate, Alvey’s prize-fighter son and younger brother to Jay (an unrecognizable Jonathan Tucker). Lauria, meanwhile, portrays a world-class athlete who had (and lost) it all. Kiele Sanchez and Joanna Going round out the cast as Alvey’s current girlfriend and ex-wife, respectively.
Quick warning about the just-released trailer (embedded exclusively above): In addition to partial male nudity, the extended clip features an endless barrage of F-bombs, so it’s probably NSFW.
Kingdom (from Endemol and Detroit 1-8-7‘s Byron Balasco) premieres Oct. 8 at 9/8c on DirecTV.
Last Friday, we gave you your first look at Nick Jonas‘ new music video “Chains” and as promised we’ve got two more sneak peeks to wet your whistle before it premiers in full this Wednesday at 6 a.m. on MTV, MTV Hits, mtvU, and MTV.com.
The first clip features Nick being dragged across the ground à la Justin Timberlake’s “TKO” while the second stars Dylan Penn with the word “Lust” watermarked in front of her face.
The single will be featured on Nick’s upcoming solo debut, in which the singer took cues from some of his favorite artists.
“I’ve been really influence by a lot of modern stuff, as well as like my classic roots, so Prince being a big one, a lot of falsetto work, Hall & Oates, is a big part of this, and then The Weekend and singing Drake, which I feel like is a different artist to Drake rapping, but I love them both,” he told MTV News. “But singing Drake and this guy Erik Hassle, a new artist that I really love, and, you know, Sam Smith and that kind of vibe, so like if you kind of mash that all together: it’s that.”
Make sure to check back tomorrow for two more exclusive previews from the “Chains” music video and don’t forget (like you need a reminder) to watch it in its entirety this Wednesday only on MTV.

“It’s a song that embodies the feeling of being trapped in a love that is hopeless,” Jonas told me when we sat down for his first on-camera interview surrounding this venture. “I think it’s a great new sound for me and a really good taste tester for this project.”
Since parting ways with his brothers last October, Nick has signed to Island Def Jam, where he’s been able to fine-tune his sound and incorporate a genre that’s near and dear to his heart: soul.
“That’s what I grew up on and that’s what feels natural when I open my mouth to sing and so having a pop alternative music bed with the soul vocal, I feel like really works,” he explained. “I think this is definitely more of a mature sound as it relates to Jonas Brothers music and Nick Jonas & the Administration.”
While Jonas promises “a bunch of songs on the record” to be self-written, he did not pen this particular track. Nonetheless, the singer found no problem identifying with the silky lyrics.
“The story behind ‘Chains’ is basically that feeling that all people can relate to, it’s being trapped. For me specifically in this song, I connected to love and trust and for some people they have said it’s broader for them, it’s more than love, it can be about anything that entangles you in your life and doesn’t let you do what you need to do to feel free,” he said. “I think this is a good fit and I fell in love with the song and I really feel like it has become a staple for this album.”
