Before each concert the Jonas Brothers perform, they and members of their band and crew gather backstage for what Nick Jonas calls a giant group prayer.

“Then we all have this giant chant where we say, ‘Living the dream, baby! Living the dream!,’ and everybody says it and it kind of gets us all hyped up for the show,” the trio’s youngest member said. “It’s kind of a long-standing tradition now.”

That makes sense, since for the past four years the siblings have indeed been living a dream.

That may seem like a short span, but the 17-year-old Nick and his older brothers, 22-year-old Kevin and 20-year-old Joe, have accomplished much during that time. Riding the support of the Walt Disney Company, the New Jersey-bred trio has sold more than 8 million albums worldwide and scored 11 Top 40 singles, including “SOS” (2007), “Burnin’ Up” (2008) and “Tonight” (2008). The brothers have played for 2 million fans worldwide since they began headlining their own concerts in 2008.

On top of that is a multimedia blitz that has included guest appearances on the Disney Channel’s “Hannah Montana” (2007) and in Miley Cyrus’ concert film “Best of Both Worlds” (2008). The Jonases got their own starring vehicle in the made-for-television Disney movie “Camp Rock” (2008) and in their own current series, “Jonas L.A.,” plus their own “Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience” (2009).

So far this year has been a whirlwind, starting with Nick’s first album and tour with his side project, the Administration, and his appearance as Marius in the London production of “Les Miserables” – he had played the street urchin, Gavroche, on Broadway in 2003. A second season of “Jonas L.A.” bowed in June, while “Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam” is set to premiere on Sept. 3, both accompanied by soundtrack albums.

Ironically, the only thing the Jonas Brothers don’t have this year is a band album – but they’re confident that nobody will notice.

“We knew that we had a lot of material coming out in different areas,” said Nick, who predicted a follow-up to the chart-topping “Lines, Vines and Trying Times” (2009) next year. “And I think we felt that releasing four albums in 31/2 years might be a bit of an overload.”

There’s also a question of audience demand. Teen appeal is fleeting, as any of the myriad pop stars who have come and gone before the Jonas Brothers can attest. The Jonases themselves succeeded the likes of the Backstreet Boys, Hansen and ‘N Sync and, while they remain unquestionably popular, the mania has died down. The group even had to retool its North American tour due to box-office concerns, and the Twitter generation is focusing on newer arrivals such as Justin Bieber.

“It’s definitely something we think about,” Nick admitted, “but, you know, I think that, with all of the other young people that are coming up, we wish the best for them. And Justin Bieber in particular, we’ve had the opportunity to meet him a couple of times and speak with him. And he’s entering into a whole new world and really being thrown into it all, and we hope the best for him. I think he’s doing a great job so far.”

The Jonases’ climb started less than a decade ago. Nick was the family’s spearhead, hitting Broadway at the age of 7 in “A Christmas Carol” (2000) and going on to “Annie Get Your Gun” (2001) and “Beauty and the Beast” (2002). After writing “Joy to the World (a Christmas Prayer)” with his father, Kevin Sr. – a former pastor with the Assemblies of God – for the “Equity Fights AIDS” album, he was offered a solo contract at Columbia Records that resulted in one album, “Nicholas Jonas” (2004), but ultimately led to the formation of a group with Joe, who had also started acting on Broadway, and Kevin, a self-taught guitarist who had appeared in a few television commercials.

“People ask us if we fight and stuff,” said Nick, who was home-schooled along with his brothers. “The truth is, we really don’t. We have a few little things here and there, but nothing that’s ever going to cause somebody to get hurt. I think we kind of got past that once we realized that it’s very unproductive, and nothing really got done when we were fighting, and so we choose to have a respect for each other – not only for our time that we’ve worked together, but also just as brothers.

“Now, Kevin does steal my socks when we’re on the road,” he added jokingly, “and that kind of makes me mad, because we have a very limited supply, but we deal with it. That’s as bad as it gets, really.”

Some high-profile romances have become part of Jonas lore, including Joe’s with Wyomissing native Taylor Swift and with “Camp Rock” co-star Demi Lovato and Nick’s with Selena Gomez, while Kevin married former hairdresser Danielle Deleasa in December.

The real test of their brotherly ties, however, may have come with Nick’s solo project. If so, he said, they passed with flying colors.

“Kevin and Joe were totally behind me and very supportive when I did the Administration,” Nick said. “And to know that I’ve got my brothers’ support in my project is a great feeling – and it gives me the confidence I need, going into it, to really perform my best.”

In a separate interview, Kevin seconded that motion.

“Nick went on a musical journey with that album and was able to follow his dreams on that,” Kevin said, “and me and Joe supported him fully and are so proud of that project. I think those influences on his record, and the things he put into that music, may very well come out in new Jonas Brothers songs.”

Even without a studio album, there are plenty of those on hand already. The “Jonas L.A.” album features 13 new songs, and the brothers had a hand in writing eight of them.

“People can expect the Jonas Brothers sound in there,” Joe said in a separate interview, “but I think the songs are a little more serious this time around. And they’ve got a Flight of the Conchords sound to them.”

“Camp Rock 2,” however, is a different musical proposition. The Jonases didn’t write any songs for the film, Nick says, due to their heavy touring schedule.

After two television movies, however, the Jonases are looking toward the big screen, as Cyrus did before them.

“That’s something that’s always been a dream of ours,” Nick said, “and personally I would love to do that a little bit more. Finding the right role is something that we’re looking for, and meeting with those agents, writers, directors, actors to try to find that right piece.”

Before that happens, however, we’re likely to see the next Jonas Brothers album, though Nick said that they aren’t rushing to meet that goal.

The JoBros recently chatted with MTV about each of their personal music endeavors.

Joe shared on new music from him, “I said I’ve been working on lots of music. I’ve been working [with] lots of musicians having a great time. [I have] been writing with a lot of friends of mine and some artists here and there, and we’ll see what comes out it.”
